At its root, eczema is really an intestinal issue. The integrity of the gut lining has been compromised in some manner that toxins are now leaking into the blood. The body in its wisdom, uses the skin (the largest eliminative organ the human body has) as the means to push this garbage out so it doesn’t do any serious damage. All in all, the body is communicating a toxicity crisis stemming from the gut.

You need to treat this from both sides… inside and out.

Inside:

1. Salt - Our Pink Salt or Sun Fire salt products are the only two sources we trust, and we eat them everyday. Kids need good salt daily to ensure proper HCL production in the stomach. This will ensure proper digestion and protect them from parasites (especially pinworms - common in salt deficient kids). 1 tsp per day (mixed in food), should do the trick. Remember, alot of kids are active and sweat alot… they lose salt pretty readily in this fashion. A surefire way to tell if you child is getting enough salt is to taste the sweat from the upper, outside shoulder (deltoid muscle). If it isn’t salty, they need salt. Salt, (sodium) is also the primary food for the adrenals which provide steady energy and attention span… everyone needs this.

2. B-Vitamins - the B’s are the most critical vitamins for numerous metabolic processes. Digestion is greatly enhanced with proper B intake and so is gut motility. A fair amount of research has shown that people with eczema are usually B deficient. 10 drops of the Max B, 1-2 times per day should be plenty for a 6 year old. Nutritional flakes can be used with the B’s to boost their effectiveness. This is a good source of protein and minerals as well. Using Nutritional Flakes mixed into food with salt and good oil turns any meal into gourmet flavor.

3. EFA’s - Essential Fatty Acids are very important for skin health, and most people are lacking. Even if people are eating good fats, (EFA’s, coconut oil, ghee) they usually still consume garbage fat in boxed and bagged foods, and in restaurant/fast food. 1-2 tsp of our EFA Oil blend should make a nice difference. Also, work to include coconut oil and ghee (Amul brand from India - the best) into the diet. These are the best oils to cook with, and I suggest you only cook with these oils. They are saturated, and therfore stable in heat. All unsaturated oils, including olive oil, are not stable with heat, and will go rancid on you. These oxidized fats will compromise skin health, along with many other organ functions including the heart, brain, and hormone production. Ocassionally cooking with olive oil (for flavor) is okay if you keep it below medium heat. Fat is one of the most confused substances in the health field, but vitally important for ideal well-being. Changing your oil, will make a huge difference in any skin condition.

4. Aloe - It is widely known to heal the skin on the outside, but many people don’t think of the skin on the inside. That tube that runs from our mouth to our anus really isn’t “inside” our body. It is covered with a special skin that protects our “insides”. You see, nothing is really inside our body until it crosses the gut lining and gets into the blood. Therefore, any compromise on this internal skin will lead to substances that shouldn’t be inside our body to leak into the blood… just like it would on the outer skin, and cause infection. I suggest giving your daughter 2 ounces of the Aloe Drink, 1 tsp of the Aloe powder mixed in a few ounces of water (very tasty for kids), or two caps of the Aloe Vcaps about 10-15 minutes before each meal. This will strengthen her digetive capacity and heal/protect her gut lining (internal skin). I will have an Aloe powder concentrate that is superior to the powders we carry now in a couple of months. It will easily dissolve into any liquid, and outperforms any other aloe vera product in terms of skin health and immune strength. Keep an eye out for this one.

5. Propolis lozenges - This can be a tasty treat for kids as long as they are not allergic to tree resins (rare). There is an impressive 50mg of propolis per lozenge. Propolis is famed for skin, liver, and immune health. This is an easy way to give your child a healthy candy. If she likes the taste, 1-3 lozenges per day will prove to be quite helpful for her skin and immune system.

Outside:

This is pretty basic.

If she has a breakout, use a combination of Castor oil with a drop or two of Neem oil on some gauze (saturated) and bandage over night. Use some DNA Repair cream or Colostrum cream during the daytime to prevent scarring and accelerate healing. Do this until the breakout clears. Remember, this eczema is an internal thing, so this topical treatment should be used to assist the body. It should not be relied upon solely, as this would not address the root. In other words, you’ll consistently clear the breakouts with this strategy, but you won’t stop them from happening. Always work from the root… that is real healing.

Confident that you are buying good, socially conscious brands? Find out the real story behind all that marketing money and store visibility.

My first introduction to natural, organic and eco-friendly products stems back to the early ’90s, when I stumbled upon Burt’s Bees lip balm at an independently owned health food store in the heart of Westport, Kansas City, Mo.

Before the eyesore invasion of ’98, when Starbucks frothed its way into the neighborhood, leading to its ultimate demise, Westport was the kind of ‘hood I still yearn for. It was saturated with historically preserved, hip and funky, mom-and-pop-type establishments, delivering their goods people to people.

I was surprised more recently when I saw Burt’s Bees products everywhere — in grocery stores, drug stores, corner bodegas and big-box stores like Target and Wal-Mart. I thought to myself, fantastic; the marketplace is working, and good for Burt. He has made his mark, and the demand for his products is on the rise.

Needless to say, I was shocked when I recently found out that Burt’s Bees is now owned by Clorox, a massive corporate company that has historically cared very little about the environment, but whose main industry is directly associated with harmful chemicals, some of which require warning labels for legal sale.

Clorox; yes, that’s right — the bleach company with an estimated revenue of $ 4.8 billion that employs nearly 7,600 workers (now bees) and sells products like Liquid-Plumr, Pine-Sol and Armor All, a far cry from the origins of Burt.

I now understood. The reason Burt’s Bees products were everywhere was precisely because they now had a powerful corporation in the driver’s seat, with big marketing budgets and existing distribution systems.

The story of Burt is a charming one gone bad. Burt Shavitz, a beekeeper in Dexter, Maine, lived an extremely humble life selling honey in pickle jars from the back of his pickup truck and resided in the wilderness inside a turkey coop without running water or electricity.

In the summer of 1984, Shavitz was driving down the road and spotted a hitchhiker who needed a lift to the post office. He pulled over and picked up Roxanne Quimby, a 34-year-old woman who eventually became Shavitz’s lover and business partner. Quimby started helping him tend to the beehives, and that eventually led to the all natural-inspired health care products made with Shavitz’s honey and the birth of Burt’s Bees products.

Burt’s story and very powerful narrative gave Burt’s Bees products their legitimacy in my book. Creative entrepreneurs and knowledgeable consumers together working their magic; not the results of a corporate behemoth out to dominate the marketplace.

However, Quimby and Shavitz’s relationship became ’sticky’ in the late ’90s for reasons unclear, yet probably having little to do with honey. Their romantic break up carried over to the split of their business partnership as well. In 1999, Quimby bought out Shavitz’s shares of the company for a small six-figure sum. Quimby then continued, becoming phenomenally successfully and growing sales to $43.5 million by 2002.

In 2003, a private equity firm, AEA investors, purchased 80 percent of Burt’s Bees from Quimby, with her retaining a 20 percent share and a seat on the board. In 2006, John Replogle, the former general manager of Unilever’s skin-care division became CEO and president of Burt’s Bees. The company was sold to Clorox in late October 2007 for $925 million.

Quimby was paid more than $300 million for her stake in Burt’s Bees. At the time of that deal, Shavitz reportedly demanded more money, and Quimby agreed to pay him $4 million. Quimby now refurbishes fancy, swank homes in Florida, travels the world and buys massive chunks of land in her free time. Our bearded man Shavitz, on the other hand, now 73 and unchanged, continues to reside amidst nature in his now-expanded turkey coop, which still remains absent of electricity or running water.

The Burt’s Bees story is disconcerting. I vaguely remembered long ago that one of my favorite ice cream products, Ben & Jerry’s, sold out. Unilever (which also owns Breyers), the giant conglomerate with an estimated market cap of $50 billion and close to 174,000 employees, bought Ben & Jerry’s in 2000 for $326 million.

I began to wonder about the other products I liked, trusted and respected for their independence and their social responsibility. How many were really owned by big corporations, who were going out of their way to hide the link between the big corporate company with the small, socially responsible brand? It didn’t take long for my list of disappointments to grow and grow.

Upon first meeting someone, I can usually tell a quite a lot about them by the contents of their bathroom. The brand I see most often behind medicine cabinets of people I consider to be environmentally conscious is Tom’s of Maine. What Tom’s says to me about the person is that they are willing to spend a little bit of extra cash in order to take proactive steps to help green the Earth.

Well, no more. My bathroom assessments will never be the same. Tom’s of Maine is owned by Colgate-Palmolive, a massive, tanklike company with an estimated 36,000 employees and revenue of approximately $11.4 billion. Its big products include: Ajax, Anbesol and Speedstick.

I am only left to wonder, is Trader Joe’s, popularly known to showcase Tom’s of Maine in its hygiene department, just as much in the dark about all of this as I have been? Or is Joe’s simply another conduit for big corporate products?

As my curiosity grew, I took a little field trip to the grocery store with one of my friends to be a “brand anthropologist.” “Let’s get to the bottom of this,” I said, aiming to check out all of the brands that I and countless other good consumers were buying in our efforts to support grassroots business and not corporate behemoths. Little did I know how deep the hole was going to be, and in some cases, how hard to find out who owns what.

Thinking Dairy

In the dairy section sit many flavors of Stoneyfield Farm Yogurt. I knew its socially conscious CEO, Gary Hirshberg, had created major organic brand recognition to become the No. 1 seller of organic yogurt in the United States, but since then Danone, the French conglomerate (which also owns Brown Cow), acquired a majority holding in Stoneyfield. This is the same Danone that had to recall large quantities of its yogurt in 2007 after it was found to contain unsafe levels of dioxins. (In an interesting twist, the still-active Hirshberg sits on the board of Dannon U.S.A. Unlike most of the early entrepreneurs, who took the dough and left the scene, Hirshberg is still involved. )

Meanwhile, I learned that Horizon Organic milk was bought out by the largest diary company in the U.S., Dean Foods Co., in 2005.

Thirsty? Juices and Water

Next I ventured to the juice section. Drinking Odwalla juices was an expensive habit I had justified for years because of its healthy California brand. The ubiquitous refrigerators in thousands of stores should have given it away that Odwalla wasn’t the small company it once was. It is now owned by Coca-Cola. Almost as soon as Coca-Cola bought the company, back in 2001 for $181 million, it stopped selling the fresh-squeezed OJ that had made Odwalla famous and popular among the healthy set. With its massive distribution system, fresh squeezed wouldn’t last the days and weeks the juices are in transit or on the shelf.

Not to be outdone (although it took it a while), Pepsi bought Naked Juice in 2006 for $450 million, in order to compete with Odwalla. Smuckers, the brand we are told is the “brand we can trust”, grabbed several juice mainstays from the health food store shelves: After the fall — R.W. Knudsen and Santa Cruz Organic.

Turns out that Coca-Cola also owns Glaceau, the company once known for its “fresh new approach to bottled water that is inspired by nature and enhanced by science.” Glaceau is the maker of Vitamin Water, Fruit Water, Smart Water and Vitamin Energy — all bottled waters that are adorably marketed and loaded with sugar. It’s no wonder Coca-Cola was slapped with a lawsuit in 2006 for making deceptive and unsubstantiated health claims in its Vitamin Water marketing strategies; they are selling glorified sugar water.

As for bottled water, egads! That’s a whole article in and of itself. The scourge of bottled water, of course, is an environmental disaster on many levels, as corporations have moved in to take control of water local supplies, while some of the same companies and their mega advertising budgets have created a giant market for bottled water, with enormous waste from plastic bottles and giant carbon foot prints as water is shipped over many thousands of miles from Fiji for example, or Italy, when pretty much no bottled water is needed. Frequently, tap water is of higher quality and more closely tested than bottled water.

And as Michael Blanding notes on AlterNet, “In fact, many times bottled water is tap water. Contrary to the image of water flowing from pristine mountain springs, more than a quarter of bottled water actually comes from municipal water supplies. The industry is dominated by three companies, who together control more than half the market: Coca-Cola, which produces Dasani; Pepsi, which produces Aquafina; and Nestle, which produces several “local” brands, including Poland Spring, Arrowhead, Deer Park, Ozarka and Calistoga. Both Coke and Pepsi exclusively use tap water for their sources, while Nestle uses tap water in some brands.

The Breakfast Nook

Over in the breakfast aisle, my friend was a bit apoplectic when we learned that the “super healthy” Kashi cereals, the favorites of millions of healthy breakfast eaters, was bought in July 2000 for an “undisclosed sum” by Kellogg’s, the 12th-largest company in North American food sales, according to Food Processing. I picked up a box of Kashi’s “Go Lean Crunch” and searched every word; not one mention of the fact that Kellogg’s owns them. That change was rally below the radar. In 2004, Kraft Foods, known for processed cheeses and Kool-Aid, bought the natural cereal maker Back to Nature. Kraft is a subsidiary of Altria, which also owns Philip Morris USA, one of the world’s largest producers of cigarettes.

According to the New York Times, “Many of the alternative cereal brands are owned by larger companies, including Kellogg and General Mills.”

“Cereals, like milk, are one of the primary entrance points for use of organics,” said Lara Christenson of Spins, a market research group for the natural products industry, “which is pretty closely tied to children — health concerns, keeping pesticides, especially antibiotics, out of the diets of children. These large firms wanted to get a foothold in the natural and organic marketplace. Because of the mind-set of consumers, branding of these products has to be very different than traditional cereals.”

These corporate connections are often kept quiet. “There is frequently a backlash when a big cereal package-goods company buys a natural or organic company,” Christenson said. “I don’t want to say it’s manipulative, but consumers are led to believe these brands are pure, natural or organic brands. It’s very purposely done.”

A little more digging shows that General Mills owns Cascadian Farm; Barbara’s Bakery is owned by Weetabix, the leading British cereal company, which is owned by a private investment firm in England; Mother’s makes it clear that it is owned by Quaker Oats (which is owned by PepsiCo); Health Valley and Arrowhead Mills are owned by Hain Celestial Group, a natural food company traded on the NASDAQ, with H.J. Heinz owning 16 percent of that company.

The Sweet Tooth

After the Kashi news, I wondered what was next? I didn’t have to go any further than the organic chocolate aisle of my favorite deli to find Green and Black’s organic chocolate was taken over in 2005 by Schweppes, the 10th-largest company in North American packaged-food sales. And even more surprising to chocolate lovers is that Dagoba Chocolate, which had a little cult chocolate following for a while, is surprise, surprise, owned by Hershey Foods.

There seems to be an apt analogy between the huge growth in the “naturalization” of packaged goods in grocery stores and supermarket aisles and the massive transformation of organic fresh foods. Organic farming began as a grassroots movement to produce food that was healthier and better for the land. But it is now a huge, $20 billion industry, increasingly dominated by large agribusiness companies. Furthermore, when the government certifies food as “organic,” it has nothing to do with the original values of locally grown produce, workers being treated fairly, etc.

So it may cheer some to know that on the East Coast, McDonald’s has served fair-trade-certified Newman’s Own organic coffee in stores, while others may cringe at the words of Lee Scott, former CEO of WalMart, when he said, “We are particularly excited about organic food, the fastest-growing category in all of food.”

“What’s important to keep in mind is that these big corporations are getting into organics not because they have doubts about their prior business practices or doubts about chemical, industrial agriculture,” said Ronnie Cummins, national director of the Organic Consumers Association. “They’re getting in because they want to make a lot of money — they want to make it fast.” He said the companies couldn’t care less about “family farmers making the transition to organic farms.”

What does this all mean? One conclusion it is easy to come to is that big food companies and the stores and supermarkets that deliver their goods have stretched and abused descriptions of food until they are sometimes almost meaningless, and consumers believe that they are getting more benefits than they actually are. Consumers “walk down the aisle in the grocery stores’ health and beauty area, and they’re confronted with ‘natural’ at every turn,” says Daniel Fabricant, vice president for scientific and regulatory affairs at the Natural Products Association. “We just don’t want to see the term misused any longer.”

On the other hand, Roger Cowe, a financial commentator states: “If you want to change what people consume on a grand scale, you have to penetrate mass markets. And you can’t do that if you’re a small, specialist brand stuck in the organic or whole-food niche, even if that means you are on supermarket shelves. It is a familiar dilemma: stay pure and have a big impact on a small scale, or compromise and have a small impact on a grand scale.”

Some think that socially responsible business sellers don’t lose it all when selling out. Both Craig Sams from Green and Black chocolate and the late Anita Roddick from the Body Shop ( sold to L’Oreal/Nestle — one of the most vilified of multinational companies) have said that they believe that an acquired ethical company can influence its new parent to improve its corporate behavior.

Others are not so positive about this turn of events. Judy Wickes from the Social Venture Network describes corporate takeovers of socially responsible businesses as “a threat to democracy when wealth and power are concentrated into a few hands.” And David Korten, in his book, When Corporations Rule the World, explained how sustainable business “should be human scale — not necessarily tiny firms, but preferably not more than 500 people — always with a bias to smaller is better.”

It is clear that so-called organic brands are a rapidly growing portion of the consumer dollar, and that every major food corporation has invested deeply in buying these already-established brands.

Marketing strategies have been fooling us to trust that the niche brands continue to be small, environmentally conscious businesses that combine ecologically sound practices with a political agenda to put products out on the market under a business model of “the Greater Good.”

In fact, they are frequently cogs in the giant corporate wheel. I like to refer to this “other” business model as “We’ve Been Had.” It is time for we, the consumer, to question how much the ownership and neglectful marketing of these “pseudo” responsible brands warrant crossing them off our shopping list.

And it is time to find products more in tune with our values, which include thinking small. At least until they, too, get bought out by some large conglomerate.

The information presented by 60 Minutes is accurate, but the drug being promoted on this episode is just that, a DRUG. PRL’s DHLA contains the natural form of this very beneficial nutrient.

Increasing Your Life Span. What if you could have a longer, healthier life — to the point of doubling your life span? Science is now uncovering nature’s longevity secrets, locked away inside plant molecules. Over 750 scientific studies have demonstrated the health-promoting properties of a special plant compound called resveratrol. A recent landmark study (2003) demonstrated that resveratrol was able to extend the life span of yeast cells by an incredible 60-80%. This study showed resveratrol was able to activate a “longevity gene” that is normally expressed (activated) only during caloric restriction (such as fasting). Since caloric restriction is known to extend maximum lifespan in mammals (such as mice), scientists speculated that humans also might be able to derive significant health and longevity benefits by orally supplementing with resveratrol. Although this study focused on yeast, a very simple life form compared to humans, the lifeextending results are believed to be applicable to humans since both yeast and humans have the same type of longevity gene. Other studies have shown that resveratrol is effective against many types of chronic diseases in humans, including cardiovascular disease, inflammatory conditions, age-related illnesses and even the ultimate chronic degenerative disease, cancer.

Resveratrol’s Remarkable Benefits The Anti-Aging Effect. Scientific studies performed with both animals and living cells have proven that resveratrol is able to promote more efficient intracellular repair, create healthier blood vessels and protect brain tissue. Research demonstrates resveratrol is able to deeply affect the center of a living cell’s nucleus to provide significant antioxidant protection as well as increasing cellular longevity. It activates an enzyme that prolongs the cell’s life, thus allowing more time for the cell to repair its DNA and live longer before the final activation of the cell’sP-53 self-destruct gene. (more…)

Most calcium products tend to promote remineralization of bone only, neglecting the tremendous need for remineralization of soft tissue (which includes all the body’s organs and glands) . In addition, most companies do not provide a means of testing the body’s mineral reserves (via the pH) for regular monitoring.

Although replenishing minerals is of critical importance for bone physiology, little emphasis is typically given to replenishing minerals for soft tissue. However, adequate soft tissue mineral levels are critical for optimal organ and gland function. An individual may have adequate bone repletion while the soft tissue mineral levels badly suffer. In addition, the most common sources of calcium are inadequate as agents to quickly replete lost bone and are also unable to replace soft tissue.

PRL Offers the pH Trio, a package of 3 synergistic products proven to rapidly replete calcium, magnesium and trace elements to both BONE and SOFT tissue, a key ability most other mineral products simply do not have. pH testing allows you to test for yourself, to see the status of your mineral repletion.

The pH Trio includes these products:

Coral Legend - the first member of the pH Trio is a unique highly ionized source of calcium, magnesium and trace elements from ocean coral.

Quantum Aloe Powder - the second member of the pH Trio is designed to be mixed with the Coral Legend to enhance mineral uptake and to target them to soft tissues. This coral-aloe combination also helps the body manufacture its own MCH (microcrystalline hydroxyapatite) calcium. More importantly, Coral Legend helps raise the body’s levels of the elusive but essential mono-ortho-calcium phosphate, the form of calcium needed by the soft tissues. This soft-tissue calcium plays a key role in tissue oxygen, the foundation of good health at the cellular level. Mono-ortho-calcium phosphate also plays a key role in flexibility of the body’s joints

Quantum Cod Liver Oil - the third member of the pH Trio is 100% pure U.S.P. grade cod liver oil (available in vcaps or liquid). Our Norwegian source tests free of mercury, while non U.S.P. grades may not . This provides the essential vitamin D nutrient needed for calcium utilization for almost every cell in the body. Most Americans do not get an adequate amount of sunlight ot make enough vitamin D to properly metobolize calcium. Withou sufficient vitamin D the body cannot properly use calcium.

Each player of the pH Trio works together to provide dramatic help to rapidly replete mineral uptake (including calcium magnesium and trace elements) for good bone integrity as well as helping to restore soft tissue health

Each member of the pH Trio has been thoroughly tested to assure its potency and also to assure that it is both nontoxic and effective. The effectiveness and the speed of mineral repletion to both bone and soft tissue by the pH Trio can be accurately and inexpensively assessed by monitoring your first morning urine pH. (see pH Story for details)

A month after 13 year old Jenny Tetlock was vaccinated against the HPV virus, she missed the lowest hurdle in gym class. It was the first sign of a degenerative muscle disease that 15 months later left her nearly completely paralyzed.

Her father, Philip Tetlock, a professor at UC-Berkeley, has embarked on an odyssey to find out whether the vaccine, Gardasil, is to blame.

Tetlock is not the only one concerned. The public watchdog group Judicial Watch has been periodically obtaining adverse event reports on Gardasil from the FDA. 10 deaths have been linked to Gardasil since September 2007, and there have been 140 reports so far this year of serious side effects such as miscarriage and Guillain-Barré syndrome.

Once you educate yourself and know the facts about Gardasil, the truth about HPV, and the statistics of cervical cancer, it will become quite clear just how outrageously useless — and dangerous — this vaccine really is.The FDA, in not-so-rare form, insists there’s no medical reason to be worried about the side effects of Gardasil. “We’re monitoring the safety of the HPV vaccine very carefully, and the only adverse event that causes some concern is fainting after the vaccine,” says Robert Ball, director of the FDA’s office of biostatistics and division of epidemiology. He continues to say, “Higher rates of Guillain-Barré have been associated with the swine flu vaccine and possibly with the meningitis vaccine Menactra, but it is no more common in those who get Gardasil than in those who don’t.”

Alright. Let’s say you agree with the idea that the cases of Guillain-Barre syndrome are pure coincidence, despite the fact that they occur within days or weeks of vaccination.

But what about the deaths?

Infant deaths following Merck’s rotavirus are routinely disguised under the label SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome). So what do we have when healthy teenagers drop dead for no reason? SAD — Sudden Adolescent Death? Will that be the next big thing? Will there be SAD campaigns, with physicians educating the public about proper sleeping positions until you’re well into your 20’s?

Let’s get real.

I recently read a comment online from one mother who said she’d do anything in her power to make sure her children were protected, and she couldn’t understand “the narrow-minded opinions” and “fear mongering” of Gardasil nay-sayers.

“Would you rather your daughters died of cervical cancer?” she wrote.

Well, that’s just it, right there! As I will show you, the chances of your daughter dying of cervical cancer are already VERY LOW, and the possibility of Gardasil sparing them from cervical cancer is so RIDICULOUSLY LOW that no reasonable person could argue for the use of this HPV vaccine if they knew all the facts.

How Likely are You to Develop and Die From Cervical Cancer?

According to the CDC, cervical cancer used to be the leading cause of cancer death for women in the United States. However, in the past 40 years, the number of cervical cancer cases and the number of deaths thereof have decreased significantly. It is believed that this decline is the result of many women getting regular Pap tests, which can find cervical pre-cancer before it turns into cancer.

According to the U.S. Cancer Statistics: 2004 Incidence and Mortality report, 11,892 women in the U.S. were told that they had cervical cancer in 2004, and 3,850 women died from the disease. The American Cancer Society mirrors these statistics, estimating that about 3,870 women will die from cervical cancer in the U.S. in 2008.

Well. We’ve already lost 18 girls, some as young as 12, in the effort to spare them from the mere possibility of cervical cancer later in life. Others have developed debilitating and potentially life-threatening ailments within weeks of being vaccinated, and others still have had spontaneous abortions or given birth to babies with birth defects.

Also consider this: Cervical cancer usually develops in your late 20s to mid 30s. The protection period of Gardasil is estimated to be 5 years. That means, if you receive your first set of shots when you’re 10 years old, you’d need at least 2 to 4 additional booster shots to make it through your 30s. And THAT means you’ll have to expose yourself to the potential side effects of Gardasil over and over and over again.

But now to the real clincher, and I want you to read the following section as many times as you need to let this truly sink in…

U.S. statistics show there are 30 to 40 cervical cancer cases per year per one million women between the ages of 9 and 26, which is the age bracket that Gardasil targets (and was tested on).

According to Merck, Gardasil was shown to reduce pre-cancers by 12.2% to 16.5% in the general population. So, instead of ending up with 30 to 40 cases of cancer per million, per year, in that age bracket, the HPV vaccine can potentially bring it down to 26 to 35 cases of cervical cancer.

What that means is that you would have to vaccinate one million girls to prevent cervical cancer in 4 to 5 girls.

Further, about 37 percent of women who develop cervical cancer actually die from the disease, so vaccinating ONE MILLION girls would prevent 1 to 2 DEATHS per year, at the bargain-basement price of $360 million per year, plus potentially lifelong suffering for an untold number of women, which has no price tag.

Is this REASONABLE?

Understanding the HPV – Cancer Connection

There are more than 100 types of human papillomaviruses (HPVs). Of them, about 40 types of HPV affect your genitals or sex organs, and can cause genital warts, for example. 10-30 strains can lead to cervical cancer. The remainder can cause to skin infections and common warts on your hands and feet.

The CDC web site states that certain types of HPV can infect your cervix and lead to cervical cancer over many years. (This may be one of the reasons why cancer rates keep dropping, because there’s sufficient amount of time to treat any abnormalities if you’re getting regular Pap smears.)

It also says that in 90 percent of women infected, HPV clears up on its own within two years, at which point your cervical cells go back to normal. It is only when the HPV virus lingers for many years that these abnormal cells could turn into cancer.

Additionally, it’s important to know that the vast majority of abnormal Pap tests do NOT equate to cancer. Even abnormal Pap tests showing pre-cancerous cells of the CIN II grade clear by themselves without treatment 40 percent of the time.

And, current treatment of pre-cancers has limited the progression to actual cancer to only 1 percent. So, just like the polio vaccine, Merck’s HPV vaccine is coming out at a time when cervical cancer is already on a steady decline, and anyone who starts talking about how Gardasil has reduced cervical cancer rates in the next few years is likely talking absolute nonsense.

Informed Consent: Understand the Numerous Dangers of the HPV Vaccine

First of all, the Gardasil vaccine contains just four types of HPV out of the more than 100 strains. So if you contract one of the 96+ types that aren’t included, you’re out of luck. And, if you’ve already been exposed to one of the four types of virus in the vaccine, it doesn’t work against those either.

This means that even if you accept the risks and get vaccinated, your chances of getting some form of HPV are still very high. Whether or not the HPV virus will lead to genital warts or cervical cancer, however, depends in large part on the state of your immune system.

Gardasil, on the other hand, can damage your immune system, and can potentially lead to death. The main causes of death include blood clots, acute respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, and “sudden death” due to “unknown causes” shortly after receiving the vaccine. Again, 11 of the reported deaths occurred within 2 weeks of vaccination, and 7 within 2 days, so whatever the mechanism that induces death, it’s quick and efficient.

Other side effects include:

Miscarriages and spontaneous abortion

Genital wart outbreak, even in patients who had tested negative for HPV and genital warts prior to vaccination

Facial warts and warts on hands and feet

Anaphylactic shock

Loss of consciousness

Grand mal seizures

Coma

Paralysis

Says Tom Fitton, President of Judicial Watch, “Given all the questions about Gardasil, the best public health policy would be to reevaluate its safety and to prohibit its distribution to minors. In the least, governments should rethink any efforts to mandate or promote this vaccine for children.”

It’s also important to know that Merck has NOT evaluated Gardasil’s potential carcinogenity or genotoxicity.

There is currently no way of knowing how the HPV vaccine affects fertility, birth defects, cancer, if it can pass through breast milk, or if it can alter your genes or the genes of your future children (genotoxicity).

However, five subjects who got the vaccine around the time of conception had babies with birth defects, whereas no birth defects occurred among the subjects who received a placebo. Likewise, earlier last year when there were “only” 1,637 adverse reports, 18 of 42 women who had received the vaccine while pregnant experienced side effects ranging from spontaneous abortion to fetal abnormalities.

Also remember that you cannot sue Merck if your child dies after receiving the vaccine.

Drug companies have cleverly manipulated the government so that they are immune from prosecution. Instead they’ve made the U.S. taxpayers foot the bill for the hundreds of millions of dollars that are paid out to families of children who are harmed or killed every year from vaccines.

And even though it is nearly impossible to get one of these payments, more than $1.5 billion has been paid out to affected families already. So ponder on these stats if you haven’t already taken a firm position on the vaccine issue.

Good Example of How to Fake a Safety Study

In yet another less-than-ethical twist, Merck was permitted to use an aluminum-containing placebo instead of a standard saline placebo. Since Gardasil contains 225 mcg of aluminum, using an aluminum-containing placebo may paint an entirely inaccurate picture of its level of safety, since you’re apt to get similar, detrimental side effects in the placebo group.

In fact, about 60 percent of those who received either Gardasil or the aluminum placebo had systemic adverse events including:

Headache

Fever

Nausea

Dizziness

Vomiting

Diarrhea,

Myalgia (muscle pain)

Gardasil recipients had more serious adverse events such as gastroenteritis, appendicitis, pelvic inflammatory disease, asthma, bronchospasm and arthritis.

You should also know that aside from being injected with four types of HPV proteins, girls and women who receive this vaccine also receive the following adjuvants:

1. Aluminum adjuvants, which have been linked to neurological damage including multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease

2. Polysorbate 80, which has been linked to infertility in mice.

3. Sodium borate, a main ingredient in roach killer.

How To Reduce Your Risk of Cervical Cancer to Virtually Zero

The following have been shown to be associated with increased risk of cervical cancer:

Nutritional deficiencies, especially vitamin A and folate

Mineral deficiency (zinc, selenium, calcium and iron)

Smoking

Birth control use

Douching

It is believed that smoking has more to do with the progression of an HPV infection to cervical cancer than any other single factor, as smokers with HPV go on to develop cervical cancer much more frequently than infected non-smokers.

Cervical cancer is also well documented to be caused by an infection acquired through sexual contact. So in addition to avoiding smoking and eating a nutritious diet, it is behaviorally avoidable.

According to a New England Journal of Medicine study, the use of condoms reduces the incidence of HPV by 70 percent, offering FAR better protection than Gardasil’s protection rate of 12.2 to 16.5 percent.

As I’ve already mentioned, in 90 percent of all cases, your immune system is strong enough to clear up an HPV infection without ANY treatment. So maintaining a strong immune system is vital to beat HPV as well as any other infection or disease.

If you pick up a can of soup and find that the sodium levels are lower than you expected, or that a food item advertises it has “less sugar” or “no MSG” … then there may be cause for alarm.

A relatively young company, Senomyx, may be responsible for the sodium and sugar levels falling in various grocery store items. They may be putting chemicals into your food right now, without telling you and without you even realizing. Under the law, they don’t have to.

Senomyx has contracted with Kraft, Nestle, Coca Cola, and Campbell Soup to put a chemical in foods that masks bitter flavors by turning off bitter flavor receptors on your tongue. The companies can then reduce sugar and sodium levels by approximately half without affecting the flavor.

All of the companies declined to identify which foods and beverages the chemical additives have been or will be added to. These chemical compounds are not required to be listed separately on food labels; they are grouped into the general category of “artificial flavors” and “natural flavors.”

Senomyx was able to obtain FDA approval and a “generally recognized as safe” classification from the Flavor and Extract Manufacturers Association in less than a year and a half, based on a safety study of rats conducted for just 3 months.

Food items that are most likely to contain these new chemicals include soups, juices (fruit and vegetable), ice cream and sauces.

Since 2000, the American Medical Association (AMA) has been advising the Food and Drug Administration to closely monitor and possibly regulate the home use of antimicrobials. Not a bad idea, considering researchers discovered the use of antibacterial dish soaps and other products may be exposing consumers to significant quantities of chloroform.

This is because, when triclosan (a chemical known for its bacteria-fighting properties) is mixed with the chlorine in tap water, chloroform is born.

How does this affect consumer health? For starters, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has classified chloroform as a probable human carcinogen, or substance causing cancer. Moreover, as triclosan flows down drains, it makes its way into:

Surface waters and sewage treatment plants.

The bile of fish.

Breast milk.

Danger of Triclosan in Dish Soaps

While triclosan contaminates numerous products (i.e. toothpastes, acne treatments, lotions and hand soaps), researchers particularly focused on dish soaps.

Conducting follow-up testing that closely mirrored typical dishwashing habits and conditions, researchers found that triclosan reacted with free chlorine to generate more than 50 parts per billion (ppb) of chloroform in the dishwater.

According to researchers, when combined with the other trihalomethanes in the water, the additional chloroform could easily drive the concentration of total trihalomethanes to 80 ppb, which is EPA’s maximum allowable amount, or higher. (If any bromide is present in the water, the level of trihalomethanes produced during dishwashing is likely to increase even more.)

Research also suggested that the reaction of triclosan with chlorine could produce highly chlorinated dioxins in the presence of sunlight.

Environmental Science & Technology April 6, 2005

Environmental Science & Technology April 2, 2005

Newswise April 11, 2005

hat’s right, you read that correctly. The AMA has been telling us for five years that we should reduce usage of antibacterial soaps. I have been concerned with this issue myself for over seven years now.

Bottom line: Read the label on your dishwashing detergent and if it has triclosan, trash it if you are using chlorinated water to wash your dishes.

I happen to use well water and my source of water is from my backyard so there is no chlorine to interact with triclosan, but most households obtain their water from a municipality.

This latest study simply provides us with the latest reasons to avoid the use of anti-bacterial products whenever possible.

Please don’t get me wrong. I understand the value of antibiotics, and I will recommend them whenever they are truly necessary. However, I am also acutely aware of the benefit that certain infections provide.

The basic issue that is important to understand is that the world you live in today is not the world your body was meant to live in. You were meant to have regular contact with dirt and everything it comes with. When you do so, especially growing up as a child, it trains your immune system to function correctly.

Simply speaking, your immune system is composed of two main groups that work together to protect you. One arm of the immune system deploys specialized white blood cells, called Th1 lymphocytes, that direct an assault on infected cells throughout your body.

Counterbalancing this, another arm of the immune system attacks intruders even earlier. It produces antibodies that try to block dangerous microbes from invading the body’s cells in the first place. This latter strategy uses a different variety of white blood cells, called Th2 lymphocytes. The Th2 system also happens to drive allergic responses to foreign organisms.

At birth, an infant’s immune system appears to rely primarily on the Th2 system. According to the hygiene hypothesis, the Th1 system can grow stronger only if it gets exercise, either through fighting infections or through encounters with certain harmless microbes. Without such stimulation, the Th2 system flourishes and the immune system tends to react with allergic responses more easily.

This entire process is one of the many reasons I strongly recommend researching the pros and cons of vaccines before you make the decision to use them on your child.

This process also gives enough reason to limit your use of antibacterial products. However, in case you aren’t convinced already, the above study suggests there might be some even better ones.

In a study published in the June 4, 2004 edition of The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, researchers compared the effects of glucose and fructose on a number of hormonal factors. The test subjects who had fructose showed higher levels of the hormone ghrelin, which stimulates eating. In addition, patients who took the fructose-laced drink had a jump in blood fats, a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.

Researchers theorized drinks sweetened with glucose may not foster overeating because the release of insulin from the pancreas is triggered by glucose, which, in turn, tells people they aren’t hungry. Additionally, the liver handles glucose in a much healthier way than fructose. (detailed later)

In an article, published in the November 2002 issue of The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, research also compared fructose with glucose, and found that fructose is converted to fat in your liver much more than glucose is.

The article went on to state that animal models show fructose consumption produces:

o Insulin resistance
o Impaired glucose tolerance
o High insulin levels
o High triglycerides
o Hypertension

The Fructose / High Cholesterol Connection

As mentioned above, the liver has a much harder time dealing with fructose than glucose…in fact, fructose can actually impair the function of the liver. The liver also controls your body’s cholesterol levels. The statin drugs for cholesterol lowering work by affecting the liver, and that’s why people taking these drugs need to watch their liver enzyme levels. Researchers theorize that liver damage caused by fructose can lead to higher cholesterol levels.

Well, by now there should be no doubt that fructose consumption is far worse than other types of sugars. Now please understand, I am not recommending you go load up on sugars as long as they aren’t fructose. You still need to watch your sugar intake. Also, I am certainly not recommending artificial sweeteners as a substitute. These have their own laundry list of problems. So what am I recommending instead of soda? Water. If it’s too bland, a lemon or lime wedge can do wonders to enhance the flavor, without causing high cholesterol, obesity or diabetes.

The number nearly triples since the FDA began a new reporting system in 1998. The main culprits are painkillers.

By Thomas H. Maugh II, Los Angeles Times Staff Writer
September 11, 2007

The number of serious adverse events and deaths attributed to prescription medications has nearly tripled since the Food and Drug Administration initiated a system in 1998 to make it easier to report significant side effects, researchers said Monday.

Twenty percent of drugs accounted for 87% of adverse effects, and the biggest offenders were painkillers and drugs that modify the immune system to treat arthritis, according to the report in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

A quarter of the increase could be attributed to a boost in prescriptions and an additional 15% to the introduction of new biotechnology drugs since 1998, but the rest could not be explained, said drug safety expert Thomas J. Moore of the Institute for Safe Medication Practices in Huntingdon Valley, Pa.

“The clear finding is that we are losing ground in terms of drug safety, and that ought to be of great concern,” said Moore, who led the study.

Both the FDA and a trade group representing drug makers agreed that the number of reported adverse events had been increasing, but they attributed much of the rise to an increase in voluntary reporting of the events. Studies have estimated that from as little as 3% of adverse events to a maximum of about 33% have been reported to the FDA.

“There are clearly other factors responsible for this increase, such as the increase in public attention to drug safety and use of the Internet to make it easier for the public to . . . report adverse events to the FDA,” said Dr. Gerald Dal Pan, director of the FDA’s office of surveillance and epidemiology.

Researchers analyzed all of the serious adverse-event drug reports submitted to the FDA through its Adverse Event Reporting System, commonly known as MedWatch reports. Physicians and the public submit reports to the FDA or to drug makers, which are required to forward them to the FDA.

The new system upgraded the FDA’s Spontaneous Reporting System to increase the efficiency with which the agency received, filed and analyzed the reports.

Adverse events are those defined as resulting in death, a birth defect, disability, hospitalization or requiring intervention to prevent harm. The number of such events grew from 34,966 in 1998 to 89,842 in 2005. During the same period, the number of deaths rose from 5,519 to 15,105.

From 1998 to 2005, the number of prescriptions written each year grew by 25%.

Women were involved in 55.5% of the events. A disproportionate share occurred among the elderly — a full third of events in a group that accounts for 12.6% of the population. Fewer events than expected occurred among children younger than 18 — 7.4% in a group that represents 25% of the population.

Five of the top six drugs causing deaths were painkillers: Oxycontin, Fentanyl, morphine, acetaminophen and methadone. The sixth was the antipsychotic drug Clozapine.

Among the drugs causing the most nonfatal adverse events were estrogens, insulin, interferon beta, Paroxetine, Clozapine, Oxycontin, warfarin and Fentanyl. Paroxetine is an antidepressant, interferon beta is used to treat multiple sclerosis and cancer, and warfarin is an anti-clotting agent.

Moore said he was particularly disturbed by the appearance of drugs such as insulin and warfarin on the list.

“We have drugs out there we know how to manage, whose risks are well-known, and for which we don’t have adequate programs in place to manage those risks,” he said.

Both Moore and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, or PhRMA, agreed that the FDA needed more funding to monitor drugs after they were introduced to the market. Such funds would allow the FDA to tap into electronic databases and other information technology systems and to develop novel approaches for monitoring drugs, said Ken Johnson, PhRMA’s senior vice president.

The FDA’s office of surveillance and epidemiology also needs greater independence to upgrade drug warnings and mandate restrictions, Moore said. Currently, the office can only provide advice that may be acted on by other parts of the agency.

…and it might also be making you fat

I’m going to cut right to the chase and tell you that the hidden ingredient is MSG or monosodium glutamate. “Big deal,” you say, “I read labels and don’t buy products with MSG, and I make sure I order my Chinese food without it.” If so, let me first applaud your efforts. But unfortunately, you can’t stop there, as sneaky food manufacturers are hiding MSG under a variety of names. But before we go into that, let’s first answer:

What’s The Big Deal About MSG, Anyway?

MSG was first isolated in 1908 by Kikunae Ikeda of Tokyo, Japan who noticed that glutamic acid had flavor-enhancing potential. Prior to this, the Japanese used seaweed as a flavor enhancer. It turns out that the secret to seaweed’s flavor enhancement is glutamic acid. Shortly after Ikeda’s discovery, commercial production of MSG began.

In addition to tasting good, MSG is dirt-cheap, and those two factors are what have led to its inclusion in everything from soup to crackers to meats. But MSG has a darker side. A side that the FDA and the world’s leading MSG manufacturer have tried to hide. MSG has a number of very bad effects on the body, most notably the brain. It is classified as an excitotoxin. According to Dr. Russell Blaylock, a prominent neurosurgeon, in his book “Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills”, an excitotoxin is a substance that overexcites your cells to the point of damage, acting as a poison.

Definitely not something you want to be eating. I mean really, is a tasty snack worth poisoning your cells for?

As you can imagine, MSG can have many nasty effects on your body, so many that I’m devoting next month’s article to describing them, but for now I need to address the folks who might be saying, “OK, so I’ll read the labels and avoid MSG. Thanks!”

Oh, if it were only that simple.

That’s dangerous thinking, and I wouldn’t be doing my job if I didn’t give you the whole story. As I mentioned, sneaky food manufacturers are hiding MSG using some label trickery. It’s a variation on the trans-fat labeling games the food manufacturers play. Oh, and you might not be surprised to learn that the world’s leading MSG manufacturer, Ajinomoto, a Japanese company, also manufactures Aspartame, another controversial food additive. But that’s a big can of worms we can open later.

For now, let’s focus on the two distinct ways of making MSG. The first is to make “monosodium glutamate”, which contains 79% free glutamic acid, sodium, moisture and up to 1 per cent contaminants. If a food ingredient contains 79% free glutamic acid, according to FDA regulations, it must be shown on the label as MSG. But…the second distinct method of making MSG is by breaking down protein into free glutamic acid. A protein can be broken down in a number of ways (hydolysis, autolysis, fermentation, etc.). So as long as it contains less than 79% free glutamic acid, it does not have to be labeled as MSG. And in case you’re wondering, the reason for my focus on the glutamic acid content is because that’s what causes all of the nasty MSG effects.

So now a manufacturer can choose from over 40 food ingredients besides monosodium glutamate, and still get the flavor enhancement of MSG. According to the FDA, each must be called by its usual or common name. Here’s a partial list of ingredients that show a food almost certainly contains MSG, in the form of free glutamic acid:

    * Broth
* Casein or caseinate
* Glutamate / Glutamic acid
* Hydrolyzed protein
* Autolyzed yeast
* Yeast extract
* Yeast food
* Hydrolyzed corn gluten
* Natrium glutamate

When grocery shopping, reading labels will help you determine if a food contains MSG. Other words indicating that MSG is in the food product include autolyzed yeast, calcium caseinate, sodium caseinate, gelatin, hydrolyzed protein, fermented soy powder and yeast extract. In most cases, the more processed a food is, the more likely it is to have added MSG. Foods that commonly contain added MSG include flavored chips, frozen items and canned soups. Naturally occurring MSG, in the form of glutamic acid, also can be found in some fish, dairy foods and certain vegetables, including soybeans, mushrooms and tomatoes.

All of that is good advice, but food manufacturers may make it even harder to find hidden MSG. The April 6, 2005 edition of New York Times reported on a company known as Senomyx. This company manufactures artificial flavors. According to the article, instead of listing the chemical compounds separately, as is done with artificial sweeteners, food manufacturers will be able to lump them into a broad category known as “artificial flavors”.

The chemical compounds are designed to reduce the amount of sugar, salt and/or monosodium glutamate listed on a food’s label. According to Senomyx’s chief executive, Kent Snyder, “We’re helping companies clean up their labels.” Not, “We’re helping companies get rid of harmful MSG or salt.” These products are intentionally designed to mislead the public, while continuing to include harmful ingredients in the foods they produce.

Since the headline mentions how MSG can eat your brain, let’s start there.

Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and MSG

For years now, the pharmaceutical industry has been researching ways to treat Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and other diseases classified as neurodegenerative. One of the most promising areas in this research has to do with drugs that block the effects of glutamic acid on the brain and nerve system.

If you’ll recall from last month, Dr. Russell Blaylock classifies MSG as an excitotoxin, a substance that excites cells to the point of damage. It turns out that Dr. Blaylock is not alone on this. Scientists classify several amino acids, most notably glutamic acid and aspartic acid, as excitatory amino acids, or EAAs. Research has shown these EAAs cause damage to very specific areas of the brains and nervous systems of laboratory animals.

This deeply concerns me, as your chiropractor, because I know that nerve damage can lead to a variety of health problems, including immune system depression and hormonal imbalance.

In addition to being EAAs, glutamic acid and aspartic acid are also neurotransmitters, meaning they control communication in the brain. And, they are both among the EAAs that appear to be involved in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimers and Parkinson’s. Although this article is about MSG, remember that Aspartame is approximately 40% aspartic acid. Yet another reason to avoid Aspartame.

Here’s further proof of MSG’s ability to damage the nerve system, from an article dated 2001, on the NIH website: “Four decades ago, it was demonstrated that the amino acid glutamate, when introduced directly into the central nervous system (CNS), could trigger convulsions by an excitatory (depolarizing) action on neural membrane.” It continues, “glutamate can kill neurons in the retina or brain, and that the neuroexcitatory action of glutamate was responsible for the cell killing effect.” And listen to what this prominent neuroscientist had to say about MSG:

“I consider it ironic, that the pharmaceutical industry is investing vast resources in the development of glutamate receptor blockers to protect CNS [central nervous system] neurons against glutamate neurotoxicity in common neurological disorders, while at the same time the food industry, with the blessing of the FDA, continues to add great quantities of glutamate to the food supply.”

– Richard C. Henneberry, Ph.D., Director, Neuroscience Program, Conte Institute for Environmental Health

In addition to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, scientists suggest that the EAA are also involved in other neurodegenerative conditions, including: epilepsy, stroke; amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease); Huntington’s disease; and Wernicke/Korsakoff syndrome. Researchers refer to these conditions as the glutamate cascade.

And if you needed further proof that glutamate is at least partly responsible for the development of neurodegenerative diseases, consider that in October, 2003, the FDA approved Namenda. Namenda became the first drug approved for people with advanced Alzheimer’s. The July-August 2004 AARP Bulletin had this to say: “the drug blunts the brain chemical glutamate [glutamic acid] which can accumulate abnormally and kill brain cells.”

As if nerve damage wasn’t bad enough consider…
The Possible Link Between Cancer and MSG

I did a Google search on glutamate receptors and cancer and found research showing that several types of cancers have glutamate receptors including: colon, breast, skin (melanoma), lung and thyroid. This was real scientific research, published in peer-reviewed scientific journals as well as on the web.

Much recent cancer researched is focused on blocking the actions of the glutamate receptors.

According to Dr. Blaylock, “The total picture is — if you’re consuming a diet with glutamate in it, particularly high levels, you’re making your cancer grow very rapidly. I refer to it as cancer fertilizer.”

Some other conditions that MSG may play a role in include:

Sudden Cardiac Death

There are glutamate receptors on the part of the heart that controls rhythm. Too much glutamate can ultimately lead to heart arrhythmias and may play a role in sudden cardiac death.

Diabetes

There are glutamate receptors on the pancreas, which can lead to diabetes or loss of diabetic control, once the disease is present.

Asthma

As mentioned above regarding lung cancer there are glutamate receptors in the lungs, which could explain the alarming increase in the number of new asthma cases.

Finally, let’s discuss MSG’s role in obesity.

In 1969, a researcher named Olney found that when young mice were given glutamic acid they developed damage to the part of the brain known as the hypothalamus. He linked the brain damage to stunted skeletal development, obesity, female sterility and other endocrine problems. Further studies have confirmed Olney’s initial findings. The fact that the research was done on young mice is important, because the young, whether mice or humans, are particularly at risk of damage from MSG and subsequent obesity because of something called the blood-brain-barrier (BBB).

The BBB controls the amount of glutamic acid that can reach the brain from the blood stream. The BBB isn’t fully formed until around 2 years of age. So any intake of MSG or other forms of glutamic acid can go directly to the brain in young children.

In addition, research has shown that glutamic acid can affect unborn children because it can cross the placenta. Avoiding MSG during pregnancy as well as when during the early years makes sense.

Also, babies can get MSG through their mothers’ milk, if their mothers are consuming MSG or through their infant formula which typically has MSG in it. The greatest amounts of MSG in infant formula will be found in hypoallergenic formulas–which are typically soy based.

Interestingly, exposing children to MSG has been shown to increase their taste for sweet foods over healthy foods.

It has been shown to increase the appetite and lead to overeating in all age groups. By way of its effects on neurotransmitters, MSG interferes with the brain’s “full” signal.

There’s truth in that old saying about Chinese food, how 30 minutes later you’re hungry again. Or maybe you’ve experienced the “can’t eat just one” phenomenon with certain snacks. It isn’t because you are still hungry, it’s because the brain has been fooled into thinking you are still hungry.

I could go on, but I think you get the picture. I encourage you to research this further on your own. The web is a good resource, and regardless of your religious affiliation, you can check out www.cbn.com for an eye-opening four part video series that features Dr. Russell Blaylock. Search MSG at the home page. During the intro, Pat Robertson states that MSG is, “Worse than alcohol, nicotine, and drugs”. I must agree.

The Four Download Areas - Using the Medi-Body Packs

The “Four Download Areas” are four key, highly polarized, entry/exit areas of the body. When these areas are open and are in proper polarity, they assist in keeping the body healthy as well as assist in ongoing detoxification. When they are blocked (or out of polarity), the body’s bio-energetic pathways can stagnate (literally “backing up”) and can produce pain as well as many other symptoms. The Four Download Areas are both hands (front and back up to the wrist) and both feet (top and bottom up to the ankle). The hands and the feet contain hundreds of highly sensitive acupuncture points that are the main bio-energetic release areas for the entire body.

It is recommended to mud pack these downloads using the Medi Body Packs™ before starting any cleansing and detox regimens. They may be repeated several times when first beginning a detox program, (ie. every other day for a week) then once a week for one month- especially if you have metal fillings.

Although all Medi Body Packs are to be followed with a Medi-Blast, it is not necessary when doing the “downloads.”

Medi-Body Pack™ - External Detoxification

Please read through the instructions thoroughly before beginning your mud pack session. These mud packs are very powerful and you may experience unnecessary detox reactions if all steps are not followed carefully.

Staining from the Medi-Body Pack™: The Medi-Body Pack™ contains 100% natural ingredients and will not stain the skin or hair. However, it may stain clothing or bedding. Therefore, it’s best to wear old clothes when using the Packs, and rinse with a dark colored wash cloth. Rinsing in the shower is always an option.

Preparation: For every 2 tablespoons of Medi-Body Pack™ powder you want to add 1 capsule of Betaine HCL (open capsule and pour out contents) with approximately 2 teaspoons of the recommended liquid. (If you have not been tested by a QRA practitioner for the type of liquid, use HM Nano-Detox.) Mix well in a nonmetallic container with a nonmetallic spoon (preferably a small rubber spatula.) The consistency should be slightly thicker than cake batter or mousse. If you can “pour” the mixture, it’s too thin. You may add more powder or liquid until the consistency is right.

The amount of mud you’ll need to mix depends on the amount of sites you’ll be packing. The recipe above should be enough for 3 to 6 target sites. *Typically, we recommend no more than six target areas per day- three packs at a time. Never do more than three packs at a time. If you are doing “focal sites” you would do 3 sites per side per day, totaling 6 sites. If you are doing a series of sites, and have had no detox symptoms after the first day, increase the amount of sites each day. For example, if you choose to do a total of 12 sites in one day, do 3 sites at a time then rinse and follow with 3 more sites until you have completed all 12 sites. If at any time you feel the detox is too much, just stick to 6 sites in one day.

Typical size of a target area: Excluding your hands and feet, the size of your target area should be no larger than the palm of your hand. If a scar is longer than 6 inches, divide the scar into sections and pack 3 inches at a time. In this case, you’ll need to rinse after each 3 inch section.

Application: After selecting the target site to treat, mentally divide this area into smaller areas, each about the size of a silver-dollar. Apply only enough mud to thinly cover the first silver-dollar size area. Rub the mud into the area vigorously for about 3 seconds. Next repeat this process on the 2nd silver-dollar size area, etc. until you have treated all of the smaller areas of the entire target area. Then you may move on to the next target area. Once you have finished the third target area you may rinse.

Hands and Feet: When packing the hands start at the wrists and cover the entire hand top and bottom (this includes in between the fingers) and end by rubbing into the palm vigorously. Wait 5 minutes before rinsing. For the feet, start at the ankles and cover the entire foot top and bottom (this includes in between the toes) to the sole. There you should rub vigorously to finish. Wait 5 minutes before rinsing. If you are doing both hands and feet together, pack all 4 and wait 5 minutes before rinsing. Your hands and feet contain hundreds of meridian points, therefore it is very important to cover the entire area and rub vigorously at each silver-dollar size area. Go to The 4 Downloads for more explanation.

Using the Packs outside: When possible, use the Packs outside during the sunlight hours over natural ground areas (such as grass or sand) for superior results. Doing detoxification treatments over natural ground allows the body to absorb and incorporate the full extent of the earth’s natural frequencies to assist in deeper detoxification while supporting the body’s own bioenergetic systems.

Timing of the Packs: Generally it is best to use the Packs before 7 p.m. After this time the body begins to go into resting mode and detoxification is often more superficial. The most desirable time is in the morning or afternoon.

Minimizing detox symptoms: Drink 1/2 cup Quantum Aloe Drink** mixed with 1/2 cup purified water. The aloe dramatically promotes elimination of released toxins and helps prevent reabsorption.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: Always finish each mud pack session with a Medi Blast (foot soak). This is a crucial step that must not be skipped. The body has released toxins internally and the foot soaks will draw these toxins out. See Medi Blast instructions for how to prepare a foot soak.

Medi-Blast Procedure
Detoxifying, Gentle Foot Bath for Full Body Toxin Chelation and Purification

What is the Medi-Blast? The Medi-Blast is a 50/50 blend of the Medi-Body Bath™ and Medi-Soak™. It is a gentle, but deeply purifying foot bath that directly pulls released toxins from pathways in the whole body. It is especially important after using the Medi-Body Pack™, Medi-Dental Pack™, and/or Castor Packs to avoid other areas of the body from “jamming” when toxins are released after detoxification sessions, especially for sensitive people, those that have been chronically ill or who have had dental problems. You may also use the Medi-Blast on any day alone by itself if you are feeling low energy or experiencing any detox symptoms.

Basic Instructions
a. Add hot water: Fill a foot-size, plastic container (non metallic) with 12 cups of hot water (purified water is best, but not absolutely necessary.) Note: If tap water is used (which is known to contain various toxic chemicals such as chlorine, fluoride, etc.) then a small portion of the foot bath’s detoxifying power will be used up in detoxifying the water itself, but the major detoxifying effect will still be available to act.

Water temperature: The foot bath water should be very warm, but not too hot. For some individuals, such as those with diabetes, the sense of the temperature may be impaired and they may be unable to accurately sense water temperature. In these cases, only use mildly warm water (to avoid water that is too hot that may burn or hurt the skin.)

b. Add powder: Add ½ cup of Medi-Body Bath™ and ½ cup of Medi-Soak™ and briefly mix into the water with your hand. Note: Some of the crystalline minerals contained in the Medi-Body Bath™ will only partially dissolve in the water. You may feel slightly chunky crystals on the bottom of the plastic container when your feet are in the water. This is fine. It is not necessary to wait until they have completely dissolved. In fact, once these crystalline minerals are submerged in the water, they begin to emit a very fine, highly resonant, piezoelectric effect into the water which assists in powerfully drawing out impurities and toxins from the body. Some individuals who are very sensitive are able to feel this very fine frequency in the water during the foot bath, almost like a low-grade electrical current. This is the magnificent power of genuine, highly resonant mineral frequencies that are being released. However, if you are unable to feel this unique effect, don’t worry- the foot bath is still working at full potency.

c. Soak for 10 minutes. Soak feet in the water for 10 minutes, then towel dry. (It is OK if the feet are not completely submerged in the water during the soaking time.) Note: Always avoid letting feet get cold during the soaking time.

d. Towel-dry feet. After 10 minutes, the maximum cation exchange power of the Medi-Blast will be exhausted (i.e. the maximum amount of toxins will have been absorbed into the water.) Discard the water. Do not reuse.

e. Go outside for 5 minutes. Go outside for 5 minutes (or more if desired) to receive beneficial solar radiation (day or night) to reinforce the new cellular resonance for the whole body. In cold weather, still try to go outside even for minute or two, if possible.

Weight Considerations

For the maximum “pulling effect” of toxins from the body, the ratio of water to mineral/solutes in the Medi-Blast foot bath is very important. Adding too much or too little can weaken the detoxifying effect. Therefore, please follow the chart below for the best proportions based on your weight:

• 100 to 200 lbs. use 12 cups of water to 1 cup of Medi-Blast
• 200 to 300 lbs. use 18 cups of water to 1 ½ cup of Medi-Blast
• 40 to 100 lbs. use 6 cups of water to ½ cup of Medi-Blast

Two handlers of conventional (non-organic) almonds each had an instance where the almonds they packed were contaminated with Salmonella. These two instances occurred over a period of 6 years. A few folks got tummy aches. This so roused the folks who control the almond industry that they mandated that the entire crop be fumigated. This is doubly tragic in that the almond crop has been short for the past three years. Finally, when they got a bumper crop, the largest ever, of 1.3 billion pounds, instead of rejoicing in the bountifulness of this California earth, albeit so abused, they can think of nothing better than to fumigate it. Your American heritage - fumigated! Something like 600,000,000 pounds will be treated with the remainder exported to civilized countries where fumigation is forbidden…. read more

Some children are more sensitive to food chemicals and display immediate effects soon after ingestion of additives, colours in particular. In small amounts additives are not harmful. Effects are dose related and, tragically, dose for weight, children are consuming several times more additives than the acceptable daily intake (ADI). Before we get into the details of the most common problem foods, it is necessary to understand the testing and approval process, with emphasis on those factors that may confer the level of risk of toxic additives in infants and young children’s diets…read more

<electromagnetic></electromagnetic>

What Are EMFs?

In all examples of EMF, the energy field causes a change in everything it encounters.

EMF (or ElectroMagnetic Field) is a broad term which includes electric fields generated by charged particles, magnetic fields generated by charged particles in motion, and radiated fields such as TV, radio, and microwaves. Electric fields are measured in units of volts per meter or V/m. Magnetic fields are measured in milli-Gauss or mG. The field is always strongest near the source and diminishes as you move away from the source. These energies have the ability to influence particles at great distances. For example, the radiation from a radio tower influences the atoms within a distant radio antenna, allowing it to pick up the signal. Despite the many wonderful conveniences of electrical technology, the effects of EMF on biological tissue remains the most controversial aspect of the EMF issue with virtually all scientists agreeing that more research is necessary to determine safe or dangerous levels. Iron, necessary for healthy blood and stored in the brain, is highly effected by EMF. The permeability of the cell membrane of our nerves, blood vessels, skin, and other organs is effected. The intricate DNA of the chromosomes has been shown to be effected by EMFs as well. In fact, throughout our bodies, every biochemical process involves precisely choreographed movement of EMF-sensitive atoms, molecules, and ions.

When Are EMFs Dangerous?
2.5 mG is the generally accepted limit of ELF magnetic field exposure but no one tells you that the average hair dryer, vacuum cleaner, or can opener you use EMITS AN AMAZING 300 mG or more!!!

After more than 25 years of intensive study, the health and safety conscious Swedish government has established a safety limit for exposure to ELF magnetic field at 2.5 mG, and VLF magnetic fields at only 0.25 mG. Although the U.S. government has been slower to act in establishing its own standards, the Swedish standard is generally accepted throughout the world. What this possibly means is that if someone consistently experiences exposure which exceeds the standard, that person could be at risk for developing health problems which can range from headaches, fatigue, and dizziness to skin rashes, miscarriage, leukemia, and cancer. In fact, numerous court cases where plaintiffs claim to have been injured by EMFs are now in progress. Even though the controversy of conflicting scientific studies persists, it seems strange that cigarettes and alcohol are packaged with warnings we already know about, and the sodium, fat, and cholesterol content of foods must appear on the labels, but NO ONE TELLS YOU THAT THE AVERAGE HAIR DRYER, VACUUM CLEANER, OR CAN OPENER YOU USE EMITS AN AMAZING 300 mG OR MORE!!!

What Can You Do About EMFs?
The Office of Technology Assessment of the Congress of the United States recommends a policy of “prudent avoidance” with respect to EMF. Prudent avoidance means to measure fields, determine the sources, and act to reduce exposure.

1. Detect EMFs in your home and work environment.

You have to know where the sources of EMF are in your everyday world and how strong these sources are. Is there wiring in the wall behind your bed that you don’t even know about? Is the vaporizer emitting strong fields in the baby’s room? How much EMF are you and your family getting from the power lines in the street? Get a meter, share it with your friends, and test the areas where you spend time.

2. Diminish your exposure to the EMFs you find.

Remember that EMFs go right through doors and walls.

Determine how far you must stay away from the EMF emitters in your home & work environment to achieve less than 2.5 mG of exposure… the microwave oven, the alarm clock, the computer, and so on.

Rearrange your furniture (especially the beds, desks, and couches where you spend the most time) away from heaters, wiring, and fluorescent lights, electric doorbells, and other EMF “hot spots”.

Test electrical appliances before you buy with a hand held meter in the store. Know what you are buying and buy the lowest EMF emitter. Where practical, replace your electric appliances with non-electric devices.

Contact your local utility if you suspect high radiation from power lines near your home, schools, or workplace. They will come out and test. If they find high levels of EMF (ask for the report!) they may be required to re-route the power lines, move them higher, or bury them.

Turn off, don’t use, or throw out electrical appliances that you can do without!

Have an electrician correct faulty high EMF wiring and help you eliminate dangerous stray ground currents. Consult a qualified EMF engineer if necessary.

Here’s a simple way to reduce exposure from idle computer monitors using the “Low-Power Standby” mode: In Control Panel, locate the “Display Properties”. Click the Screen Saver tab and check the Low-Power Standby box. Set the amount of minutes of idle before activation of standby mode. Click OK. What this accomplishes is that the monitor will power down (almost zero radiation output!) when the keyboard is idle for a short while. To “wake up” the monitor, simply touch the keypad or mouse. Note: this is better than Screen Savers, which do not reduce radiation or power consumption! This may only be available in some Windows 95/98 computers. For other computers use the Monitor Miser to accomplish the same radiation savings.

3. Shield yourself.

Use shielding devices on your computer screen and cellular phone. Add shielding to your household wiring, circuit box, and transformers. Use shielding-enhanced materials in your bedding or your clothing if you must be exposed to EMFs.

Did you know that:

you can reduce the EMF exposure from your hair dryer 90% or more by arranging to hang the dryer on a wall hook, get a flexible plastic hose for the nozzle, and direct the hot air to your head with the hose!

USA Today conducted a survey of 4567 readers and reported that EMF pollution is the #1 environmental concern in America today.

the Wall Street Journal reported in 1993 that the real estate resale value of homes decreased by as much as 30%, if exposed to EMFs!

that electric fields are measured in units of volts per meter (V/m) and magnetic fields are measured in units of Gauss (G) or Tesla (T). 1 tesla = 10,000 gauss.
microwaves are within the upper part of the radio frequency part of the electromagnetic spectrum? Radio frequencies range from kilohertz (thousands of cycles per second) to gigahertz (billions of cycles per second). Check your microwave oven for leakage!

epidemiological studies in Sweden by Maria Feychting showed that individuals exposed to high magnetic fields at home and at work had 3.7 times the risk of developing leukemia compared to those not exposed.

that 2 recent research reports have identified elevated risks of breast cancer among women working in jobs with presumed higher than average exposure to EMFs.the US Postal Service has agreed to allow installation of 200 foot high towers supporting clusters of cellular phone antennas on the rooftops of 11,500 US Post Offices. By using this federal land, the installers can circumvent local planning boards.
the electromagnetic radiation from 4 watt walkie-talkies and 0.6 watt cell phones can cause medical life support equipment (such as infant apnea monitors) to malfunction?

the back of your computer is actually more EMF dangerous than the front? The safe distance from the front of your computer is about 30″, while safe EMF levels from the back are about 40″! Think about what this means in schools and offices with rows of terminals. Suggest computer shielding to your employer and school board.

when shopping for appliances, those with a higher EER (energy efficiency ratio) generally produce lower EMF levels and are therefore safer!

one study (Ahlbom & Feychting, 1993) reported that at 2 mG and above, exposed children were 2.7 times as likely to develop cancer as unexposed children, and at 3 mG and above, the odds rose to 3.8 times as likely!

another study (Wertheimer & Leeper, 1986) stated that couples who use either electric blankets or electrically heated waterbeds had a significantly higher miscarriage rate!
